The Michaelskirche in Fulda is really worth a visit! It`s one of the oldest churches in Germany and has a quite interesting history. It was built from 820-822 by Abbot Eigil, so it is 1200 years old. In 2022 Fulda celebrated it´s 1200th anniversary. The Michaelskirche is also a “Totenkirche“. You can go to church there on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. But you can also visit the old church from the 1st of April to the 31st of October every day from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and from the 1st of November to the 31st of March every day from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. It`s only closed on Rosenmontag, the 24th and the 31st of December.
If you want to know more about the Michaelskirche then I recommend booking a tour. You just need to write an email to michaelskirch@bistum-fulda.de. A normal visit doesn`t cost anything but a tour costs about 5 euros for each person. The crypt under the church is also very nice!
The Michaelskirche is easy to find: If you start at the bus stop “Stadtschloss” you need to walk straight on the Rabanusstraße to the North-West. Then you need to turn left into the Schlossstraße and walk staight on, then you need to turn right into Pauluspromenade. Keep going on until you come to the Michaelsberg, turn left! Now you need to walk until you arrive at the Michaelskirche… I think it`s a cool place to visit, especially for tourists! It looks just spectacular!
Tip: If you are there, you should also visit the Dom next to it and the really nice old town with many other great attractions, shops and cafes!
